The wine makers at Cave Springs Cellars in Ontario's Niagara peninsula understand all the elements necessary for creating superior wines. Angelo Pavan co-founded Cave Spring with the Pennachetti family in 1986 and has been in charge of wine making since their first vintage. Pavan was involved with recent renovations, which resulted in a wall-to-wall quality winemaking facility.

Refinishing the walls was one of their top priorities, and Pavan was searching for a hassle-free solution. Hygiene and maintenance were the main considerations. Cave Spring had tried painted chipboard, but they soon realized it wouldn't do the job. Pavan had noticed Altro Whiterock™ in the neighbouring restaurant On The Twenty, and was impressed with how well it was performing.

When we started this renovation, I wanted a permanent solution for the walls, because it works out to be a lot less expensive in the long run. "Altro Whiterock is a permanent solution," explains Pavan. Unlike traditional alternatives, Altro Whiterock is virtually maintenance-free and never needs painting or refinishing.

Wine making can be a messy business. Pavan says the Altro Whiterock is notably beneficial in the bottling line area, where the wine can spray against the walls. "The walls can be hosed down and it makes it much more sanitary," adds Pavan. With the frequent public tours through the facility, a surface that allows for quick cleanup of sprays and spills is particularly important. Altro Whiterock also prevents the accumulation of dirt, grime, bacteria and odour, making it an ideal choice for food and beverage facilities.

Installation was another consideration. Cave Spring Cellars needed a wall system that could be easily installed around many of its heavy wine storage tanks. Altro Whiterock's flexibility allowed for quick installation. It is supplied in sheets, fixed directly to the wall and thermoformed on site, which means no grouting joints where dirt and germs can accumulate.
