NOISE ENCLOSURES Employees of a leading designer, manufacturer, and installer of grid-connected solar electric systems are hearing much better these days thanks to a Soper's SoftWall noise enclosure installed at the company's headquarters. PowerLight uses computer numerically controlled (CNC) routers in its high-tech operations. The total accumulated noise becomes extremely uncomfortable to those working nearby.
The enclosure has made a significant difference -- achieving a 20 dB reduction. Noise levels have been reduced to half the permissible maximum. In fact, the company's health and safety committee no longer needs to implement a Hearing Loss Prevention Programme beyond the normal scope. In addition to reducing noise levels, the Soper's enclosure has also helped control foam dust generated by the CNC routers. Before the enclosure was installed, less than half the dust was collected by PowerLight's dust collection equipment. With the enclosure, almost 100% of the dust is collected, reducing clean-up time by 50% after each shift.
