National Instruments has released LabVIEW 8, a significant upgrade to its graphical development platform for design, control and test. With LabVIEW 8, engineers and scientists now can: design, distribute and synchronize intelligent devices, streamline application and device management and measure in minutes with the latest Express Technology. LabVIEW 8 introduces distributed intelligence -- a powerful suite of new capabilities that contains a simplified, scalable interface for communicating with synchronizing between remote intelligent devices and systems, such as real-time processors and FPGAs. The same graphical platform can now be used for simple data transfer, deterministic real-time communication and network synchronization with integrated alarms, events and data logging.

Intended for industrial control applications, the 8255-compatible OMG-USB-DIO48 has 48 channels of buffered digital I/O. The 8-bit ports are configurable as inputs or outputs, with 10K pull-up resistors on each port bit, which let users create customized input or output combinations. The low order bit of the first port can be set to generate an interrupt for status monitoring, and a factory-configurable feature lets users request conditional I/O combinations for interrupt generation. This new OMEGA product includes Windows programming samples.

Vi-Cas produces fit-in replacement Gripper Blocks to fit capping equipment made by Resina. As the "wear part" of capping equipment, these gripper blocks, or rubbers, can significantly impact the production of capping machines -- new gripper inserts are faster and do not leave unsightly blemishes on caps. Baumer has designed an extremely rugged version of the MagRes Magnetic Incremental Encoder to monitor speed and slip on the wheels of trains, transit vehicles and heavy equipment. Used on each axle of the vehicle and mounted directly onto the wheel hub, the encoder features a cast iron and graphite housing that is robust, maintenance-free, nearly impervious to liquids and NEMA 4 protected. An innovative sensor for monitoring safety and maintenance issues including traction control and antilock braking, the Mass Transit MagRes has a speed range from 0 to 1500 rpm. This single turn incremental encoder operates optimally in temperatures from ­30°C to 85°C.

Galil's Accelera Series DMC-18x6 PCI bus motion controller features a powerful, 32-bit Risc-based, clock multiplying processor with DSP functionality. These controllers have the ability to accept encoder inputs up to 22 MHz, servo update rates as low as 24 microseconds per axis, and command execution speeds as low as 40 microseconds. The DMC-18x6 provides fast command execution speeds as low as 40 microseconds per command, which is important in applications requiring very tight synchronization of multiple motion and I/O tasks. It also accepts inputs from quadrature encoders at frequencies up to 22 MHz, which is a critical requirement for applications that use very high-resolution feedback sensors. In addition, the faster servo update rate is important for applications which use low inertia, high bandwidth motors.

This hollow pancake stepper motor has a 2.5 inch hole in the center for a microwave tube and is designed for applications where accurate positioning and high torque are desirable characteristics. This pancake motor has a 1.8° step angle and provides up to 400 ounce inches of torque. The motor's outside diameter is 5.7 inches and 1 1/4 inches thick.
