In a crowded marketplace, differentiation and value are the keys to success for any consumer-based business. Yves Dupont, Manager of the Grand Falls Branch of Jean C. Dupont Ltd. is very aware of this rule of business.

Jean C. Dupont, an aftermarket wholesale distributor and retailer, serves a wide clientele in Northern New Brunswick, and bordering Quebec and Maine regions. The customers range from truck drivers to mechanics, and forestry, wood and paper mill workers, as well as individuals and contractors in the manufacturing and industrial sectors. Both retail locations (Edmundston, NB and Grand Falls, NB) offer a variety of products, such as automotive parts, lubricants, hoses and fittings, pumps and hydraulic components, mechanical equipment and automotive, industrial and residential paints.

"Our customers rely on many types of engines," says Yves Dupont. "We don't service a particular engine brand; we sell products for all types of vehicles including loaders, trucks and tractors."

Although Jean C. Dupont's customers are a diverse group, they share similar challenges. "One common goal of our customers is to be competitive in their respective industries," explains Dupont. "That's why the cost of materials and downtime is important. In order to be competitive you need to be time efficient; if you can save on downtime, you end up saving money in the long run."

"To date, we've converted ten customers to DURON XL 15W-40," says Dupont. "We used a cost-savings model developed by Petro-Canada to illustrate the potential cost savings of DURON XL. We enter labour rates and filter costs into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the program calculates the savings."

"The price of DURON XL may be higher, but price is not the priority here; it's the saved downtime. Our customers save on downtime with Duron XL because of the quality of the oil. DURON XL improves engine wear and gives the engine a longer life," concludes Dupont.
DURON XL 15W-40 Synthetic Blend is a heavy duty engine oil (HDEO) for engines operating in both on-highway and off-highway applications. It is specially formulated with Petro-Canada's unique patented 99.9% pure HT synthetic base oils and high performance additives.

This premium HDEO is suitable for use with engines fuelled by diesel gasoline, propane or compressed natural gas. DURON XL offers extended oil life and exceptional engine wear protection; the superior soot dispersion capability protects against abrasive wear and sludge formation, It also provides advanced low temperature pumping capabilities for extreme temperature range protection.

"DURON XL 15W-40 is a high quality product; it adds value to our customers' operations," says Dupont. "By converting to DURON XL, our customers have realized an annual cost savings of approximately $1,500 per vehicle -- including the cost of filters, oil and labour. When you have a fleet of vehicles, the cost savings really add up. The savings make a big difference to our customers, and that helps us build solid business relationships."

Dow Corning® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound provides a moisture-proof seal. Electrically-insulating seal for spark plug connections, electrical connections, and electrical assemblies and terminals. Also, it can seal and lubricate cable connectors, battery terminals, rubber door seals, and rubber and plastic O-rings, and can be used as an assembly lubricant in metal-on-plastic and metal-on-rubber combinations. The compound is resistant to a wide range of organic and inorganic chemicals, as well as mineral oils, vegetable oils, air, dilute acids, alkalines, and most aqueous solutions.

Imperial Oil has launched a complete line of food grade lubricants for use in the food and beverage manufacturing industry. The company has received approvals from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) for five lubricants in the most stringent category 'n' for incidental food contact.
