ENCLOSURE HEATERS

For enclosure systems, which operate in extremely cold environments Rittal offers 800W and 1kW heaters. Available off-the-shelf, the units have the ability to operate in severe conditions down to -33°C. Weighing only 2.3 kg and measuring 325 x 85 x 2254 mm the 1kW heater is discreet, yet provides the necessary power required. The 800W unit has a small space requirement of only 150 x 82 x 110 mm. Both systems have a range of approvals including CE, CUL, and UL. Available with a natural aluminum finish and connecting cable with wire end ferrules, the systems are compatible with Rittal hygrostats and thermostats that prevent damage caused by condensation and extreme conditions.

MACHINE ENCLOSURES

A new series of machine enclosures, fabricated from extruded aluminum, are vibration proof, dust free, temperature and air distribution controlled and feature access doors and removable wall section for major maintenance operations. Modular Tooling Systems will build assembled units or provide individual components for the customer to assemble. Midsection plexiglass windows can be installed to move vertically or horizontally. A/C units are added to meet air-makeup requirements. Enclosures can be installed on site or individual components can be delivered for in-house setup.

  ENCLOSURE COOLING

The Vortex A/C™ cooling system for electrical enclosures is available in three models which deliver 900, 1500 or 2500 BTUH of refrigeration. The patent pending design features an integral thermostat to maintain enclosure temperatures within a range of 27° to 32°C and is suitable for NEMA Type 4 and 4X rated electrical cabinets. Requiring only a compressed air supply to operate, the Vortex A/C quickly installs in a 1.5" knockout hole to keep electrical control panels cool, clean and protected. The "no-downtime", maintenance-free units incorporate vortex tube technology to convert filtered compressed air into a low pressure, refrigerated air stream distributed throughout the enclosure.

  ELECTRICAL ENCLOSURES

Designed to reduce arc flash risks and increase electrical safety by providing maintenance personnel a no-touch voltage portal on the outside of metallic electrical enclosures, the ChekVolt™ interface, installed on an electrical panel, allows maintenance personnel to use a non-contact voltage detector 'pen' to check line voltage before and after they open the main disconnect. The ability to pre-verify electrical isolation before opening a panel puts an additional safety measure between electricians and hazardous voltage.

  SAFETY CELL ENCLOSURE

The Enviro Saf-T-Cell™ standardized safety cell enclosure features an integral air filtration system designed for robotics, metal forming/fabrication, welding, printing, manufacturing, assembly and other potentially occupationally hazardous processes. The safety cell enclosure not only limits access to peripheral employees, but also protects them and neighbouring machinery from flying debris, weld flash, machine noise, and toxic fumes.

Double deep non-metallic enclosure meets need for mobile pneumatic rig safety control system

by Cameron Astley

Rigsmart Systems Inc., an Edmonton-based company, has been developing new safety products for the oil service rig industry. Rigsmart System is a rig safety and data acquisition system used on service and workover rigs. It allows the driller to input data on the well, including depth, tubing, casting and rod data, as well as service pressure. The system measures load on the drawworks, line payout and ram position as well as many other conditions on the rig.

When we went looking for an enclosure to house the mobile pneumatic controls for the system our biggest obstacle we had to overcome was finding one that could handle our 9 1/2" vertical air filter that needs to stand upright in the housing. We initially searched for an enclosure that would meet these requirements, but were unable to locate one to meet those needs. We had been working with Lord Electric, a local electrical products distributor located in Calgary, and turned the problem over to them to see if they could find an enclosure solution that could meet our needs. They found Stahlin's FATBOYJ 12x10x10 SSH model enclosure that was not only deep enough but also fits all of our other performance criteria as well.

In addition, to the enclosure's depth, we had several other important demands from the enclosure. The enclosure had to be non-metallic and NEMA 4X rated in order to meet the Canadian Class I/Division 1 Rig Restrictions standard ensuring the electrical safety of the crew on the rig. Stahlin's non-metallic formulation gave us this quality and also an enclosure tough enough to withstand the abuse of our system being on an oil rig and the associated environment it is exposed to. Plus the enclosure is big enough to house all of the controls together, permitting the crew to easily transport the mobile system from one site to another.

The FATBOY is an off the shelf product reducing our overall cost and meeting our need for immediate shipping. Plus through Stahlin's modification capabilities (ModRight™ Program) the enclosure arrives at our facility with all the necessary cutouts for the system hoses and connections all at a significant cost savings to us compared to doing it ourselves.

The Stahlin FATBOY series features a unique "clam shell" appearance and rugged durability necessary to ensure a practical solution for many "extra space" application requirements without adding height or weight. FATBOY is well suited for both indoor and outdoor environments. The series provides nearly equal space capacity in both its cover and base. Typical applications include: petrochemical plants, water treatment facilities, battery containment, food and beverage. FATBOY is immediately available in 11 standard sizes from 6x4x8 inches up to 20x16x17 inches with 21 configurations in both opaque and bonded window options. FATBOY is UL/CSA rated to Type 12, 3R, and 4X as well as IEX 60529 IP66 for durable protection against extreme environmental conditions. As with all Stahlin non-metallic enclosures, FATBOY can be customized through Stahlin's ModRight™ enclosure modification program to accommodate needs such as custom windows, colour, cutouts, holes and silkscreening.
