The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) released two new posters to help workplaces promote health and safety in the office. The first posters in the new ergonomics series, "Pick Up Tips on How to Lift Safely "and "Tension Relief ... It's a Stretch", promote safe work practices to help reduce the risk of injuries. They illustrate safe lifting tips and tension-relieving exercises that can be done at a workstation or sitting in a chair. Lifting is the most common cause of low back pain at work in Canada. The number and severity of injuries can be greatly reduced by preparing and planning for the lift, and practicing safe lifting and handling techniques. "Pick Up Tips on How to Lift Safely" visually showcases the importance of preparation and proper lifting methods, by displaying photos of different lifting techniques. Workers who sit behind a desk for most of the day may complain about being stiff and sore. It takes effort for the body to maintain one position for a long time. "Tension Relief ... It's a Stretch" features stretching exercises that can be completed in a workstation.
Each poster is double-sided, in English and French, and are available as free loadowns from the CCOHS website, -- www.ccohs.ca -- or for sale as gloss 16" x 25" prints.
CCOHS is continually adding new posters to promote awareness of existing and emerging workplace health and safety issues.
