ITT Goulds Pumps announces a worldwide effort to celebrate pumps as the "heart of industry." Various festivities and observations -- including efforts to support heart health and recognize people who keep pumps running -- will culminate on Pump Appreciation Day, April 10, 2012.

"Most people are unaware of the impact pumps have on everyday life, but industrial pumps are the unsung heroes of manufacturing -- without them, factories can't function," said Robert J Pagano Jr., president of the ITT Industrial Process business which includes ITT Goulds Pumps. "Pumps are really the heart of industry, essential to making basic materials like paper, plastic and steel, and to powering our life with gas and electricity. Pump Appreciation Day will support a good cause, while educating the public about the importance of pumps and recognizing the people who design, install, operate and maintain them."

Pagano said that the company will soon announce new deals to encourage participation in the day. Plans include:

* Customer and employee recognition events by ITT Goulds Pumps, its distributiors and customers.

* Donations for the International Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Program. The company has already launched the World of Pumps Quiz (www.worldofpumpsquiz.com), which challenges its customers to answer industry-related questions and pledge donations to the ECC Program for every correct answer. Between now and April 10, additional efforts will contribute to this initiative for fundraising and awareness.

* Timelines, sheets and educational materials highlighting the role of pumps in modern life and specific industries.

"Without a heart, life stops, and without an industrial pump, manufacturing stops," Pagano said. "ITT Goulds Pumps is launching this global effort to promote healthy operation in both areas."
